What the commission applies to

One rate, every way you earn. Velvet does not charge a different percentage depending on which part of the product made the sale, so you never have to work out which kind of income is cheaper to sell.

Subscriptions

The monthly price fans pay to follow you, including anything you attach to a welcome message when they join.

Pay-per-view links

A priced bundle of photos or video, whether you share the link on your page, in a chat, or anywhere off Velvet.

Tips

Anything a fan sends you because they wanted to, on your profile, under a post, or in a conversation.

Custom requests

Work a fan commissions from you directly, at the price the two of you agree before you start.

Wishlist gifts

Items a fan buys from your wishlist, which reach you as balance rather than as a parcel.

Sales made in chat

Content sold inside a conversation, whether you sent it yourself or a chatter on your team did.

What Velvet never charges

The commission is the whole of what Velvet takes. There is no second line, and nothing is billed to you before a fan has paid.

• No monthly fee, and no annual one. There is no plan to buy, so there is nothing to renew and nothing to cancel.
• No setup or onboarding cost. Creating your account, your page and your first paid link costs nothing.
• No per-seat charge. Inviting someone to help you in chat does not add to your bill.
• No listing or upload fee. Publishing content, however much of it, is free.
• No minimum. A month where you sell nothing costs you nothing.

What else comes out of a sale

Velvet's commission is not the only thing between a fan's card and your balance, and it would be dishonest to show one number and let you discover the rest later. Here is everything else that can apply.

The fan's service fee

Fans pay a service fee on top of your listed price, so it comes out of their total and not out of your share. It varies by country, because tax on a digital sale does. Your price is what you set, and what you are credited against.

Payment processing

The payment provider charges its own fee for handling the card. This is standard for every platform that takes payments and is separate from Velvet's commission.

A chatter's commission

If someone on your team closed the sale, their agreed share comes out of what is left after Velvet's commission, never on top of what the fan paid. You set that rate, and it only applies when a sale is actually attributed to them.

Taking money out

A withdrawal fee applies when you move your balance to your own account, with a floor and a ceiling so a large payout is never charged proportionally more. The current figures are shown before you confirm a payout.

How you get paid

A sale settles into your Velvet balance rather than going straight to your bank, which is what lets a refund or a chargeback be handled without clawing money back out of your account afterwards.

You withdraw when you choose. There is no fixed payout day to wait for and no schedule to opt into, and you can see what is available and what is still settling at any time.

Fans pay on-site through Yoursafe, which is also the name that appears on their statement, so a card holder recognising the charge never has to guess what it was for.
